About the Oak Creek's Academic Support Center

Our Academic Support Center, in Room A208,  is staffed by Educational Assistants and tutors. Students can get help in subjects such as Math, English, Computers, Biology, Biochem, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Accounting. We have both Windows 7 and 10 computers, as well as 2 Macs, with a variety of software for students. Some of our software includes Microsoft Office, VMWare, Respondus Lockdown Browser, Adobe CS, Starry Night, AutoCAD and more.

Students are able to use the printers in the lab if they have their Student ID. If you do not have a Student ID, you can get one by going to Student Life in A107 at South Campus, or at any MATC Campus. Students are given $10 on their Student ID cards every semester which can only be used for printing or copying.

Anatomy and Physiology students are able to check out anatomy models using either their student ID or a picture ID. However, these models are very expensive and students are asked to be very careful when handling them.

Tutoring is available every day, but please check out the tutoring tab of this page to see more information on our tutors and their availability. Both walk-in and assigned (one on one) tutoring is available.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us during our open hours.

Jean Anderson, a frequent visitor of the Academic Support Center, recently graduated (May 2015) with an accelerated Associate Degree for Administrative Professional along with the Lamp of Knowledge award and the President's award.

Before I became an Educational Assistant, I used to tutor Jean myself. She is a wonderful, kind-hearted, enthusiastic student that always gives it her all. When she showed me her awards, she thanked the staff for helping with her education.

After I heard about her interview on TMJ4 ( link ), I reached out to Jean, asking if she wanted to add anything to this site to help get the word out about Academic Support, and she gave me the following:

Hi Mel,

I wanted to take some extra time this morning to thank you and the entire support staff at the Oak Creek Academic Center for their assistance in several of my subjects these past few semesters--you are all a huge part of my success as an older student attending college for the first time!  I was recently awarded both the Lamp of Knowledge award by Dr. Sayers and the President's award by Dr. Martin as I worked toward my Associate Degree for Administrative Professional - Accelerated.  What an honor this has been for me, but I owe my success to the awesome teaching staff and to the availability of the Academic Center as well as the tutors who assisted me along the way.

Since I lost my job in November 2012, I couldn't begin full-time classes until June 2013.  I didn't even know the Academic Support Center existed when I started school, but once I found out about it, I used their computers daily because I did not have Windows and the Microsoft Office package at home. It was so helpful and convenient to have computers available for us to do our assignments, to take tests, and to do research projects at no cost to us. I will be forever grateful to the Academic Support Center and for the help of all the tutors that diligently support the students and encourage us to succeed in our individual programs.

If there is a way to have all the part-time and full-time teachers promote the academic centers at the various campuses each semester, this would certainly benefit all the students as they begin their journey at MATC.  The academic center played such an important part in my journey toward receiving my degree; I will be encouraging everyone I meet to make use of this very important resource.
