Computing services

Welcome!Students are required to log in at the kiosks at the entrance of the lab before any tutoring sessions or computer use. 

The friendly staff of M273 Computer Center can help with:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, basic Excel) and Google Tools software
  • Downloading assignments from and submitting them to Blackboard
  • Creating, formatting and saving documents
  • Inserting YouTube videos into Power Points
  • Printing, copying and scanning documents (faxing available in the Library upstairs)

You will need a student ID card to print. Each student's Stormer ID is loaded with $10 each semester for printing costs. Printing is 5 cents for black/white and 50 cents for color prints. The printers use the Papercut printing system

We have 108 computers, including six Apples. The majority of our computers have Windows 10. We have two computers that are reserved for wheelchair access.

Our software includes but is not limited to: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Quick Books, Peachtree Accounting, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Adobe Reader.

Writing services

Students are required to log in at the kiosks at the entrance of the lab before any tutoring sessions or computer use. Staff are able and willing to help students during the log in process.

We assist MATC students with :

  • Understanding the steps of the writing process
  • Practicing prewriting techniques
  • Building an outline
  • Developing a thesis statement
  • Constructing a logical argument
  • Improving proofreading and editing skills
  • Analyzing literature
  • Using updated MLA/APA/Chicago style documentation
  • Building sentence skills
  • Using internet resources such as the Online Writing Lab (OWL)

We do not:

  • Assist with quizzes, take-home exams, or tests
  • Replace class time or extend due dates
  • Write, edit, or proofread personal correspondence, business documents, or homework that has been assigned for another college

Submitting to the MATC OWL

Online Writing LabPapers received by the Online Writing Lab (OWL) after 12:00 p.m. Friday will be responded to on the following workday.

Please send your paper as an attachment in Microsoft Word (.docx) or (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) to writing@matc.edu, and include the following information in the body of your email:

  • First and last name (include on essay submission)
  • Student ID number
  • Course name and number
  • Instructor's name
  • Detailed guidelines for the assignment (can be copy/pasted into email from Blackboard)
  • Assignment due date

Please allow one to two business days for a response. Papers submitted outside of normal MATC Writing Center hours are looked at when the center next reopens. In other words, papers submitted over the weekend will be returned the following Monday or Tuesday. 

Policies

  • No eating or open drinks allowed. (Drinks are allowed with lids/caps.) 
  • No children of any age allowed in the center.
  • Be courteous to others! No loud talking, music without headphones or cell phone calls in the center.
  • MATC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Every student must sign in at the kiosk.
