Cathy Lechmaier was the student life coordinator of South Campus for 39 years. When she retired in 2016, the same year as the makerspace project, Student Goverment felt it fitting to name the makerspace, a place of learning and exploration, after someone who devoted their life to helping students expand their horizons through MATC.
Game-Based Learning is a technique that utilizes games as part of the learning process. There are many games in the Makerspace that can be used in the library or checked out for on-campus use by students and instructors. ESL game nights are also held as a way for students learning the English language to have interactions with native English speakers in a casual learning environment.
An entire guide on game-based learning, including available games, is located at guides.matc.edu/game-based-learning and includes circulation information.
