The standard Chromebook is an HP Education Edition Chromebook.
You will need home Wi-Fi (internet access) in order to use this device.
This device is sufficient for most Blackboard coursework. You are not able to download desktop software to the device, though you are able to access MATC's VDI (Virtual Desktop) in order to gain access to programs such as Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop.
These devices come with a protective case, which must remain on when using the device. Removal of the protective case may cause damage, and you will be responsible for covering the cost of damages to the device. It is in your best interest to keep the protective cover on the device.
The Chromebook with Hotspot device is identical to a standard Chromebook in regards to what the device can be used for.
With this device, there is a hotspot built in. This allows the device to connect to the internet without separate Wi-Fi service. These devices are reserved for students who are in need of both a device and home internet in order to complete their assignments. The Wi-Fi service works only for this device. The monthly service is sufficient for completing homework assignments. It does have a slow down period if the monthly limits are reached, which typically only happens when using the device for non-MATC purposes (such as, extensive gaming or multi-day, multi-hour streaming of large video files).
