Chemistry is a field of science that derived from alchemy, a now archaic idea that there was a universal solvent, a universal remedy, and of course, some substance with the ability to turn any metal into gold indefinitely. While alchemy did not produce an elixir of eternal youth, it did lead to experiments and discoveries that would pave the path for chemistry.
