Mission

The mission of the MATC’s Center for Teaching Excellence is to provide instructional consultation and support to part-time and full-time faculty which stimulates faculty collaboration and encourages teaching innovations. We are pleased to have you on our team. You and your colleagues are the key to the success of our students and this college as we work to transform the lives of our students, build the workforce our industry partners need and improve the community we share.
 

Description

The Center focuses on faculty professional development, collaboration, exploration, accountability, and just-in-time answers when you need them. The Center's goal is to bring together research, teaching, mentorship, evaluations, and faculty support services. The Center is much more than just people, workshops, conversations and a welcoming space on campus. It's a place to find collaborators and colleagues across the disciplines, and to fill your pail with new ideas through reading groups, by learning new technologies, and by sharing high-impact practices. Grow. Stretch. Breathe. Think deeply. Learn. At the MATC’s Center for Teaching Excellence, the possibilities are endless.

About the CTE Director

Dr. Julie Ashlock

An adventurer at heart, Julie is a Wisconsin native who has lived in several states including Colorado, Montana, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.  Awed by the beauty found in nature, she spends her time outdoors hiking, sketching, and on the lake with her husband, two children, and beloved Labrador retriever.  She volunteers for Milwaukee Riverkeepers, Girls Scouts of Southeastern Wisconsin, is on the Board of Directors for the Germantown Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the National Art Educators Association.

Julie is a lifelong learner and has earned her Doctor of Education in Higher and Postsecondary Education – Teaching and Learning; her dissertation topic explores the influence of digital culture on the development of critical thinking skills in visual art students. In addition, Julie has an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Oregon and a BFA in Art from Colorado State University. As a professional educator Julie is highly attuned to strategies and activities that support and encourage student success, retention, and ultimately completion. With over 15 years of experience as an Academic Dean or Director and another five years as an instructor, Julie is well-qualified in hiring, training, and mentoring any level of the academic position including but not limited to faculty, academic staff, program directors, library, student affairs, and executive committee members.  She is a confident author of accreditation and regulatory documentation, application, submission, and visitation procedures.  She is passionate about transformation and can navigate and thrive in challenging environments.  Julie develops creative strategies for the next generation that are sustainable and visionary.
